Los Angeles has come together for a local cause...TACOS!
A new county ordinance restricting taco trucks has outraged many residents of East Los Angeles who have grown to love their taco trucks, and the nostalgia that surrounds them.
Over 6,000 people have signed an online petition opposing the new law at www.saveourtacotrucks.org, where people have voiced their dislike for the new law.
Los Angeles is a food obsessed city, with rich Hispanic cultural traditions, and to many these trucks are more than just a taco stand. The trucks have become somewhat iconic in the area. At any given lunch time you can find a line filled with people of different backgrounds, both young and old, all waiting patiently for their food and a small slice of a Los Angeles tradition.
The new ordinance states that taco carts would be required to change location every hour, with violaters facing fines, misdemeanor charges, and possibly jail time.
County officials say the change comes from a request of residents who find the carts eyesores, and some restaurant owners who feel undermined by the price-chopping ways of the trucks.
Regardless of who's side you take on the issue, there is no denying the power of the Taco! I'm hungry now, peace out!
