I am laughing uncontrollably right now - and it's all because of this hilarious video. "Leave Barack Alone" is essentially a re-make of Chris Crocker's notorious "Leave Britney Alone," but with voice dubbing to defend the current Democratic Presidential nominee, Barack Obama.
I'm pretty sure Chris had nothing to do with this video, but nonetheless - it is HYSTERICAL!
And if you didn't already know, Chris is one of our most popular SocialVibe members! Check out his SV profile to see which Sponsor and Cause he chose.
Gwendolyn DeBard Strong was born on October 4, 2007 with a condition known as Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1 (SMA1). This terminal genetic disease results in loss of nerves in the spinal cord and weakness of the muscles connected with those nerves. Gwendolyn's mind and spirit are no different from any healthy baby, but her body is failing her. Gwendolyn, along with tens of thousands of babies living with SMA, will most likely not see her 2nd birthday
Not only is SMA1 the #1 killer of children under the age of 2, it is estimated that 1 out of every 6000 infants are born with the disease. There is no current cure for SMA1, and we need your help to move landmark legislation through Congress that will allocate federal resources to non-profit and research organizations focused on finding a treatment and/or cure for SMA.
Good news: Researchers estimate that we are as close as only a few years away from finding a treatment and/or cure. Plus, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) have selected SMA as the disease closest to treatment of more than 600 neurological disorders.
There is legislation currently in Congress, the SMA Treatment Acceleration Act, that, if passed, would provide the resources necessary to end SMA . There is an online petition, PetitionToCureSMA.com, a grassroots effort to drum up broad national support for the legislation. Please take 30 seconds to go to PetitionToCureSMA.com and sign on in support of this landmark legislation that will end this tragic disease! They need 50,000 signatures and as of today have 9,641. We can SURELY raise that number!
You can find more information about Gwendolyn and her journey with SMA at her blog, GwendolynStrong.com, and if you done so already, take a look at the promotional video that her parents put together:
It's always nice to see those in the mainstream media spotlight doing what they can to make a positive difference in the world.
Case in point: The new commercials featuring the cast of Gossip Girl, which playfully demonstrate ways to decrease your carbon footprint, such as putting on a sweater, using re-usable mugs, etc.
Personally, I am a Gossip Girl addict. I cannot WAIT for the new season to start. Yes, this may be shameful but it's the truth and I'm not afraid to admit it. I once met Chace Crawford (Nate) at a party and let me tell you - he is just as gorgeous in real life. Anyway, it's great to see that they are using their celeb-dom for spreading the good word.
Does this make you want to change your behavior to be more eco-friendly? What do you already do to be more "green?" I started using re-usable shopping bags, stopped eating meat, recycle everything I can, canceled my magazine subscriptions, and switched to energy-saving light bulbs, among other things. Also, I don't have air conditioning, but that isn't a choice I made, haha. Now your turn to tell me what changes you've made!
Professional skateboarder and reality star Ryan Sheckler might be best known for his smooth moves - both on a skateboard and on the ladies - but he is no stranger to charity initiatives. He once offered to donate his SUV to the person who raises the most funds for the Sheckler Foundation, the charity he established that partners with the Children's Cancer Research Fund.
This time, Ryan is using his skateboarding image to help raise money for cancer research. X Games 14 kicked off last night with a huge party on the rooftop of the STAPLES Center in LA. For the next four days, the best of the best in extreme action sports (such as BMX, skateboarding, Moto X and rally car racing) will be competing for coveted titles.
Ryan, who has proven himself among the industry as well as among the throngs of young female fans who religiously watch his MTV reality show, has decorated a special skateboard deck for a charity auction running in conjunction with X Games 14. For the third year in a row,"Don't Ever Give Up!," the Skatedeck Auction, will be auctioning off custom-designed skate decks to raise funds for The V Foundation for Cancer Research. In addition to Sheckler, a plethora of other athletes, artists and celebrities have created their own deck designs, all painted on decks donated by Powell Skate One.
Don't worry - just because you can't make it to the X Games doesn't mean you can't bid on the one-of-a-kind skateboards! They will all be up on eBay, through August 9, for your bidding pleasure. Do you love Ryan enough to bid on his deck? It's up to $150!
Are any of you going to the X Games??? If you meet Ryan or any of the other celebrities, make sure you get a pink ball pic with them!

Alex's Top 5 List of 80's Movies Worth Re-Visiting
5. Labyrinth (1986)
“If she had gone that way, she’d have gone straight to the castle!” If you know who said that, then you, like me, have seen Jim Hensons classic Labyrinth one too many times.
This movie never gets old, although watching it as an adult isn’t quite the same. I remember being a little scared of the gremlin things that could take their heads off. But at 25 years old, the only thing that scares me in this movie is David Bowies hair.
4. The Karate Kid (1984)
“Put him in a body bag Johnny!!!!”
Ahhhh quite the classic we have on our hands here. Who can forget this movie about a 16 year old (Daniel) who moves from New Jersey to sunny California, only to be greeted by a group of local hooligans that find it necessary to torture young Daniel-San. Faced with only one option, Daniel masters the art of Karate from an old wise man who just so happens to also be the maintenance worker at his apartment complex. Who hasn’t been there right? The following scene, though, is the best montage EVER…
One of the reasons we do what we do here at SocialVibe is not only raise funds, but to raise awareness for causes that don't have enough eyes and ears on them. Pancreatic cancer has the highest mortality rate of any cancer, including breast, prostate, colon, and all others. Despite that disturbing statistic, it is also one of the causes with the least awareness, funding and support. The research for pancreatic cancer is where breast cancer research was in the 1930s, and because of this, there is currently no early detection, no effective treatment and NO cure.
Dr. Randy Pausch was a brilliant, charismatic 47-year-old professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon. He was a best-selling author who achieved worldwide fame for his "The Last Lecture" speech on September 18, 2007 at Carnegie Mellon (shown below).
Dr. Pausch was also diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in August of 2006. After an unsuccessful surgery and experimental chemotherapy, the doctors told Randy that he only had approximately 3-6 months of good health left. He chose to make each one of those days count by devoting his time to the fight for increased funding for and awareness of pancreatic cancer research.
He joined the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network to tell Congress of the need for more research, better treatment options and real hope for pancreatic cancer patients. In his powerful and emotional Congressional testimony, he reiterated the urgent need to increase federal funding for pancreatic cancer research and said “people in research labs can do miraculous things if they’re given the resources to do their jobs.”
Unfortunately, Dr. Pausch passed away this past Friday, July 25. On the bright side, the public awareness and visibility Dr. Pausch raised on Capitol Hill is unparalleled. He has helped change the course of history for this disease and blazed a new trail for advocates and volunteers to carry his legacy forward. Volunteers and advocates like YOU.
Check out the video of Dr. Pausch's last lecture below.. it is truly inspiring!
