5. Labyrinth (1986)

“If she had gone that way, she’d have gone straight to the castle!” If you know who said that, then you, like me, have seen Jim Hensons classic Labyrinth one too many times.
This movie never gets old, although watching it as an adult isn’t quite the same. I remember being a little scared of the gremlin things that could take their heads off. But at 25 years old, the only thing that scares me in this movie is David Bowies hair.
4. The Karate Kid (1984)

“Put him in a body bag Johnny!!!!”
Ahhhh quite the classic we have on our hands here. Who can forget this movie about a 16 year old (Daniel) who moves from New Jersey to sunny California, only to be greeted by a group of local hooligans that find it necessary to torture young Daniel-San. Faced with only one option, Daniel masters the art of Karate from an old wise man who just so happens to also be the maintenance worker at his apartment complex. Who hasn’t been there right? The following scene, though, is the best montage EVER…
3. Flight of the Navigator (1986)

Find out the #1 and #2 below the fold...
I had the chance to watch this movie again a few weeks ago, and I must say, it’s much better when you’re old enough to catch on to some of the smaller stuff. It actually is a great movie about a kid who somehow travels through time, comes across a space ship, and has to straighten everything out so he can go back to his family. Rightttttttt. Regardless, great movie with a really cool space ship ☺ The little alien d00d in it is kind of a Gizmo rip-off though.
2. Explorers (1985)

This movie has both River Phoenix and Ethan Hawk in it. Great movie about a group of kids who build a space ship (that works) to escape their lives on planet earth. The ending is a little funky, but it works. Really wish River Phoenix was still around, I think he would have had quite the career.
1. The Monster Squad (1987)

Ok not many people saw this, but holy wow is it a classic! A group of kids form a team (I see an 80’s theme here) to fight a recent infestation of monsters in their small town. Full of great montages and jean jackets, this is one movie you can’t miss. But why is this the best movie of the 80’s? It started the trend of using the word ‘Nards’ ☺
