This is a nice warm story to start your Wednesday off with. I know you all have mixed feelings about Lauren Conrad and 'The Hills' in general - some of you love it and are waiting on the edge of your seat for the new season, the rest of you hate it with the fire of a thousand suns. Either way, you can't deny that the story I'm about to tell you was a great move on LC's part.
Conrad is giving up the surfboard she won at this year's Teen Choice Awards to someone a lot more deserving -- 13-year-old Leukemia patient Pat Pedraja, who was up for the $100,000 Do Something Award and lost.

LC met the Pat at Do Something's Teen Choice pre-party Saturday night where she presented him with $10,000 check from Do Something for his work recruiting bone marrow donors from minorities across the country. Disappointed that he didn't win the $100,000 Award, LC decided to take matters into her own hands and show him just how touched she was by his work. In addition to the surfboard, he also gave him an iPod Touch she’s personally filled with her favorite music. It seems that Lauren has discovered there’s life beyond The Hills!

DoSomething.org has published the personal note written by Pat in regard to LC's generosity.
The Teen Choice Awards weekend with Do Something was an amazing experience but the kindness of one person stood out more than anything else.
I have met a lot of celebrities during my international marrow drive with Driving for Donors but no one has ever made such an impact on me like Lauren Conrad (or LC, from The Hills).
I met LC at the Do Something Pre Party where she presented me with my Do Something Award. She had already met my little brother, Tucker, when he interviewed her on the Red Carpet and she was really nice to him too!

Celebrities are asked to do so many events and awards presentations so there was no reason for my story to touch her in any special way, but it did! She went out of her way to talk to me before the award ceremony to tell me that she had heard a lot about me and thought the work I was doing was amazing. That made me feel great!
She said so many nice things about me when she gave me my award and even gave me a special, thoughtful gift that she knew I would love.

The next night at the Teen Choice awards, I didn't win the Do Something Award and was a little sad. When Lauren won her award for Best Red Carpet Dress, she dedicated the award to ME and my work! That made me feel special! So many celebrities have the opportunity to do something nice for regular people like me, to make them feel special. Many times celebrities have told me that they want to help me with Driving for Donors but then they usually don't. Lauren didn't have to tell me that I was amazing, she didn't have to go out of her way to give me a present and she didn't have to dedicate her award to me, but SHE DID! Simple, kind and generous gestures like this make all the difference to me and I will never forget it!
We all look up to celebrities and I want to tell everyone that Lauren Conrad is an exceptional person, more than a reality TV star or fashion designer, but a person that I am proud to look up to. I hope that one day I can make someone feel as good about themselves as Lauren Conrad made me feel. Shouldn't we all want to make someone else feel great if we can? Come on Celebrities, make someone's day! It will make you feel good too!
Your friend,
Pat
