Awesome news for panda-lovers everywhere. While the Olympics closing ceremony was taking place in Beijing over the weekend, three new baby pandas were born in southwest China. That makes a total of nineteen born this year! That might not sound like a lot, but giant pandas are notoriously difficult breeders. And considering they are one of the most endangered species on the planet (there are only 1,600 pandas living wild in China, and an additional 180 being raised in captivity), 19 is a big deal.

Eight-year-old Chengji, whose name means "achievement" in Chinese, gave birth on Saturday to twins, according to the Beijing Morning Post. They were named Yingying and Nini. Additionally, another 18-year-old panda gave birth to her 12th baby on Sunday. Yay for baby pandas!
By the way, panda fans - I posted some adorable pictures of the endangered species last week, which were met by rave reviews in the comments. If you haven't seen them yet, you are definitely missing out! Check it out!
