For days now, the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, Mississippi, and surrounding areas have been on watch as yet another devastating hurricane heads their way.

With Hurricane Gustav poised to make landfall in a matter of hours, residents and community officials are been bracing themselves for the storm. Unwilling to watch a repeat of Katrina, Direct Relief International is taking every necessary precaution to ensure the high-risk areas are well stocked with emergency medical materials.

In addition to the 18 hurricane preparedness packs they distributed to clinics along the Gulf Coast this summer before hurricane season, Direct Relief began sending additional materials on Friday to alternate care sites at evacution shelters. Each pack provides 100 people treatment for a range of trauma and other conditions.

It would be truly heartbreaking to see another catastrophy happen, just a few short years after Katrina.

To do your part in helping the communities affected by Gustav, choose Direct Relief International as your cause on SocialVibe today!

For more information on how Direct Relief is taking action to protect against this natural disaster and to see all the latest updates, check out their site.

trying to not sound like a heartless bitch, but after everything with hurricane katrina; why wouldn't you move away? i understand money may be a problem, but i know i'd find a way if my life and everything i owned and loved was at stake. it's kind of people who do live there's stupidity knowing how dangerous of a place it is to live there and staying there. instead of speniding money trying to rebuild the place constantly, why not spend money on moving these people away from that area?

who's idea was it to buld a city below sea level anyways?

to ''mandurox''. why wouldnt i move? i would be poor and without a home. my parents work in the news station and we have to stay where the money is. you only think that you would find a way to pick your life back up. i stayed for katrina and ended up on my roof for 4 days without food or water, i lost everything i owned and many loved ones, including my grandma who died on the roof i was on. Its not so easy to move on and live a luxurious life somewhere else. but i guess thats my ''stupidity'' coming into play when i say those sorts of things. you wouldnt know until you have gone through it, so im giving you a break and trying not to be too much of a dick.
