The world lost a screen legend over the weekend, as Paul Newman, aged 83 years, died at his home in Westport, CT after a long battle with cancer.

Paul was nominated for 10 Oscars, winning 1 for his work in "The Color of Money." He also starred in one of the best films of all-time "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." He retired from acting last year

In 1982, he founded "Newman's Own," a line of food products. Proceeds from the company are donated to charity. As of last year, they have donated around $250 million to worthy causes, making him one of the most charitable celebrities of all time (he came in #4 on Parade Magazine's Most Generous Celebrities list).

Paul also cofounded the "Hole in the Wall Gang Camp," a summer camp for sick children. The camp has expanded within the U.S. and in other countries.

The Newman Foundation issued this statement:

"Paul Newman's craft was acting. His passion was racing. His love was his family and friends. And his heart and soul were dedicated to helping make the world a better place for all. Paul had an abiding belief in the role that luck plays in one's life, and its randomness. He was quick to acknowledge the good fortune he had in his own life, beginning with being born in America, and was acutely aware of how unlucky so many others were. True to his character, he quietly devoted himself to helping offset this imbalance. An exceptional example is the legacy of Newman's Own. What started as something of a joke in the basement of his home, turned into a highly-respected, multi-million dollar a year food company. And true to form, he shared this good fortune by donating all the profits and royalties he earned to thousands of charities around the world, a total which now exceeds $250 million. While his philanthropic interests and donations were wide-ranging, he was especially committed to the thousands of children with life-threatening conditions served by the Hole in the Wall Camps, which he helped start over 20 years ago. He saw the Camps as places where kids could escape the fear, pain and isolation of their conditions, kick back, and raise a little hell. Today, there are 11 Camps around the world, with additional programs in Africa and Vietnam. Through the Camps, well over 135,000 children have had the chance to experience what childhood was meant to be.

"We will miss our friend Paul Newman, but are lucky ourselves to have known such a remarkable person."

Rest in peace, Paul. You will be forever missed!

Today is a very important day in SocialVibe history. Today is the day that YOU can join the fight against breast cancer by choosing our newest cause, Keep-A-Breast.

Not only that, but you have the opportunity to be in a video that SocialVibe is producing in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

First, a little bit about KAB - Keep A Breast is an amazing organization on a mission to eliminate breast cancer by exposing young people to methods of prevention, early detection and support. Through art events, educational programs and fundraising efforts, KAB seeks to increase breast cancer awareness among young people so they are better equipped to make choices and develop habits that will benefit their long-term health and well-being.

You may have seen the video of Katy Perry getting a mold made of her torso to be auctioned off for Keep-A-Breast, but if not - check it out here.

Here are a few examples of the incredible molds they make:

Earlier this month, we happily announced the winner of our August Member of the Month contest, following the incredible telethon that Stand Up To Cancer broadcast that resulted in an amazing $100 million being raised for the cause.

SocialVibe member Pauluhhhh sent in a beautiful mosaic photo, appropriately titled "Sunset of Strength" -

Here is what she had to say about it:

I couldn't just choose one or two people I know with cancer. Cancer in inevitable. It's all around us, and we don't know it. I HAD to do a BIG picture of what cancer is to me, and how STRONG people have to be in order to deal with cancer.

I chose a sunset because it represents the strength of not only people I know with cancer, but everyone [INCLUDING their families] who have survived cancer. It also is a blessing of being able to live another
day.

The pictures I used in the mosaic are my family & friends that has, had & died of cancer. I added yellow daffodils, the symbol of HOPE & famous people I idolize who have survived cancer.

Pauluhhhh won a SocialVibe Swag Basket (to include a sweatshirt, backpack, water bottle, slap bracelet, pen/highlighter), 3,000 SocialVibe Points, a Flip camera, and a one (1) year 2-at-a-time Unlimited subscription to Netflix.

Here are the photos of the adorable MariaPaula with her winnings!

Congratulations MariaPaula! You definitely earned it, and we are glad you are enjoying your prizes!

There will be many more opportunities for SocialVibe members to win contests like these, but if you want to start earning points towards your own SocialVibe swag - be sure to join our Street Team.

One of the best-selling female recording artists of all time, Mariah Carey, has just been named as the newest Ambassador for the UN World Food Programme.

The 38 year old mega-superstar will appear in a series of posters that can be found in Yum! brand restaurants such as KFC, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut in 36,000 stores in over 112 countries. Customers who visit the restaurants will be able to pick up a special card that will allow them a free download of her single "Love Story" off of her album E=MC2. For each download, $.25 will be donated to the Yum! Foundation’s Hunger Relief campaign.

I think we should all go out and get those cards - seems like an easy way to help raise money for the World Food Programme!

Don't forget you can also support WFP on SocialVibe by choosing them as your cause.
