The insanely popular book series Twilight, documenting the love affair between Bella and Edward (a vampire), has become an instant favorite of teenagers and adults alike. The highly anticipated film version of the first book opens this Friday, and last night's Hollywood premiere drew a massive fan turnout.

More than 250 shrieking fans of all ages camped out overnight hoping to steal a glance from Rob Pattinson (aka Edward Cullen). Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke surprised fans by paying them an visit on Sunday night, posing for photos and signing autographs.
It wasn't just youngsters present at the Los Angeles premiere, though. A group of thirtysomething members representing TwilightMoms.com staked their place on the sidewalk overnight, leaving their kids at home.
The actual premiere drew thousands of fans, an E! Online reporter on the red carpet described, "I have never seen anything like this at a movie premiere. Or heard anything like it. Stephenie Meyer, the author of the Twilight series of books, is drawing screams as she signs autographs and takes pictures as she walks into the theater. Yup, Twilight must be big if teens are screaming at the top of their lungs for a writer."
