M.I.A. certainly isn't "missing in action" when it comes to charity work. The British rapper responsible for the super hit "Paper Planes" recently visited Liberia to film an episode of 4REAL, a humanitarian-themed TV show that features stars as they venture around the world to connect with young leaders affecting real change on some of the most important issues of our time.

During the filming, MIA was introduced to founder and Executive Officer of Youth Action International (YAI), Kimmie Weeks. The episode featured YAI’s programs in Liberia - specifically their efforts with the Becky Primary School. After seeing YAI’s impact on the students of the Becky Primary School, MIA teamed up with YAI to help fund the rebuilding and renovation of the school.
Renovations to the school, which is located in Margibi County and enrolls 625 students a year, will include new classrooms, a library, computer labs, and a new playground.
M.I.A., who is currently pregnant with her first child, used her MySpace blog to ask fans for help with renovation ideas and book donations, among other things.
"It costs $52k to build a school for 1,000 in Liberia," said M.I.A., who is using $100,000 she was paid for a show earlier this year to kick start the Liberian school project.
"Maybe you have ideas to make this school more eco-friendly ... Your school might have books and stuff to donate etc let us know. And if you have interest in going to Liberia to do exchange programs at a school or help out in anyway, let us know."
Just like her song says, I guess she really is a "bona fide hustler making her name." Check this video to see what she had to say about her experience in Liberia..
What renovations would you suggest for a school like this?
