For Thanksgiving, you help yourself. For Christmas, you must Elf Yourself!
OfficeMax's hilarious website Elf Yourself is back! This year, they've partnered with JibJab, makers of fabulous eCards, so the elfing site is aaall suped up.
You can upload pictures of up to five people to be your elves, and you can choose from several different dances for them to jig on. I chose to elf several of the SocialVibe employees and make them disco dance.
Please - if you care about us at all, you will make elf videos of yourself and send them to us for posting or post them in the comments. We can't get enough of the elfing!
Sometimes, to get what you want, all you have to do is ask.
This is evidenced in the below communications between a Greenwich High School student and Apple CEO Steve Jobs. The student wrote a letter directly to Jobs asking for a student discount on the Apple software Final Cut Studio 2. His letter was polite and direct. Two weeks later, he got a lot more than he asked for.
The student told Gizmodo.com all about it. Here is his original email:
And here is Apple's reply, straight from Richard Townhill, Director of Pro Video Product Marketing.
Boldness and enthusiasm will get you a long way! Now, excuse me while I write a few letters to the makers of all cool things.
Here's a little-known fact: Norway hosts a majority of the world's known cold-water coral reefs. And if you've never seen what a cold-water coral reef looks like, the stunning video here is unforgettable:
As much as 30 to 50 percent of these fragile reefs are either impacted or destroyed by bottom trawling. Today about 100 EU trawlers, 50 Norwegian trawlers and 250 Russians trawlers hold fishing licenses for Norwegian waters, in addition to those in the North Sea.
That's it, I know what I want for Christmas. A jet pack.
Yesterday, former stuntman Eric Scott defied the laws of gravity and risk his life by flying 1,500 feet over a 1,000 foot deep gorge yesterday in 21 seconds…IN A JET-PACK.
Ever since The Rocketeer, many of us have been dreaming of the day the jet pack would finally become a reality. Before his trip across the sky, Eric said, "There is no parachute. There is no safety net. There is no air bag. But there is 800 horsepower on my back."
And what if it didn't work? "Scott’s backup plan was to kill the gas and save any remaining fuel for a final burst as he neared something he could grab onto on the cliff above the Arkansas River. "
Ahh! Apparently the jetpack "wobbles" at 60mph, but he had to travel at 75mph to make it across the gorge. TakePart makes a good point - this might not be the most fuel-efficient form of travel.... but wouldn't it be great if there was an eco-friendly jet pack? I would totally jet pack to work. Take that, LA traffic!

Will Smith has been popping up around the country at charity premieres of his new movie Seven Pounds. We told you about the Miami premiere last week, and now he has taken the show on the road to Denver and Cleveland and other cities. All the premieres benefit local food banks.
Before moving on, the former Fresh Prince squeezed even more charity into his time in Miami. He took a moment from his busy premiere schedule to spread a little joy at the Miami Children's Hospital. He visited sick children and handed out toys and DVDs, signed autographs, and also made a generous donation to the hospital's fundraising foundation.
Just like his character in Seven Pounds, Smith is surprising folks with his good deeds. "We were deeply moved by Will Smith's donation and the true spirit of joy he brought to the many young patients being treated here," said the Foundation's president, Lucy Morillo. "We are very appreciative of his heartfelt support and honored to have such a celebrated figure as part of our Miami Children's Hospital family."
Heartwarming, right? He is just too good. Don't forget to get sponsored by Seven Pounds on SocialVibe, so you can earn 7x the points and do some good deeds of your own.
It doesn't get any better than winning awesome prizes from your favorite brands just for choosing them as your Sponsor. I mean... who doesn't love free stuff? SocialVibe gives free prizes to our members week after week - just for posting your badge on your social networking profiles.
And with that, I'm thrilled to announce the latest winners for this week's Perks drawing!
As always, thanks to our amazing brands, and of course thanks to all of you who participated this week. If you didn't win, no worries. There are plenty of other cool prizes up for grabs every week. Be sure to check out what is up for grabs this week.
Some of Hollywood's elite attended the second annual CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute on Saturday night in LA. The program honors the Top 10 CNN Heroes of 2008. Heroes are people recognized for making a difference in the world through their service to others. Hugh Jackman, Cameron Diaz, Salma Hayek and Selena Gomez and many others were in attendance to support the honorees; Christina Aguilera, John Legend and Alicia Keys performed; and CNN's own Anderson Cooper hosted.
Each of the top 10 heroes were be honored in a documentary tribute and introduced by a celebrity presenter. The show will culminate with the announcement of the CNN Hero of the Year, chosen through an online poll that generated more than 1 million votes. The Hero of the Year will be awarded $100,000 in addition to the $25,000 that each of the top 10 CNN Heroes receives.
The taping of Saturday night's festivities will be broadcast globally on CNN on Thanksgiving night. For more info about the honorees and air times, visit the CNN Heroes website. Then watch the video below to see how the award is made from environmentally friendly materials.
We can't wait to watch this tribute! It will sure beat watching the usual football games on Thanksgiving night... and a lot more inspiring, too. Instead of placing wagers on Thanksgiving football games, maybe you and your family members can bet the leftovers on which heroes you think will win.
