When I was nine, most of my time was spent doing homework, eating cereal, and playing capture the flag. The internet wasn't even around yet, and you can be darn sure I wasn't learning any programming languages or writing programs.
Can't say the same for Lim Ding Wen, a 9-year old Chinese boy who just wrote a finger painting iPhone app for his little brothers & sisters.

Fluent in six different programming languages, Lim began using a computer at age 2 and has worked on over 20 different programming projects. His most recent being Doodle Kids, the finger painting app that allows of all ages (that includes adults) to finger paint on their iPhone and shake it to clear the screen.
Call me a simpleton, but that sounds like hours of fun.
- "Ding Wen is an above average boy with an interest in computers," said his Dad, "especially Apple IIGS and Macs, likes to do programming, and that's it. Doodle Kids is an extremely simple program that can be done by anybody. Everybody can program - if Ding Wen can, so can you," he wrote.
Glad to hear the encouraging tone for aspiring young programmers out there - but we think he deserves a little more applause!
Nine years old and writing iPhone applications. Think of what the world is going to be like with young geniuses like Lim running the world 15 years from now.
