Salma Hayek, mother of one year old Valentina, is currently spending time in the Western African country of Sierra Leone. After meeting a one week old baby, the actress took it upon herself to donate her own breast milk to feed the malnourished infant, who strangely enough was born on the same day as her daughter.

Yes, she actually breast fed the baby on the spot - and it gets better. There's video footage. ABC's Nightline was on the scene to film and interview Hayek about why she decided to help the child in such a strange way.

"I actually think that my baby would be very proud to be able to share her milk, and when she grows up, I'm going to make sure she continues to be caring, generous person," says Hayek.

As you know, we are all for doing everything in our power to help those in need. We're touched, but can see how someone would be weirded out. What's your take? Did she go too far or is that completely acceptable?

i dont see whats wrong with it unless perez thinks that just b/c its a black baby and a white woman its gross... its not like there's a real difference in salma's milk and the babies' mother's milk, other than the fact that the mother can't spare it and salma can.

POSTED 8 MONTHS AGO

Breastmilk is a part of our system for a reason, for those mothers who choose not to use it, it's because they can afford to. But it's there for a reason, our focus should be on feeding these mothers to make sure that they aren't malnourished, and to make sure that they can provide food for their babies. That's a wonderful thing that she did, it's too bad that there aren't more women willing.

Very sweet gesture, though I can say that I doubt the one feeding will miraculously impact the baby's health (unfortunately). This is a perfectly natural thing. There has always been, and are still, cultures where mothers feed and care for ALL of the children - which includes breast feeding infants that are not their own!
