When you think about hunger, many of us picture those in third-world countries who struggle daily to feed themselves and their families. The ugly truth is, we don't have to look much further than our own front door to witness the hunger epidemic.
An astonishing one in eight Americans struggles with hunger. President Obama recently acknowledged this disturbing issue, adding that many of the food banks these people turn to are simply unable to keep up with the high demand. Rising unemployment rates due to the recession are only making this more problematic.
They're turning to people like you to help your fellow Americans through these tough times by supporting these food banks, in turn providing relief to millions of Americans.

Here's an excuse to buy another t-shirt you don't need in the middle of a recession. You're just doing your part to save the planet! For each Tees for Change shirt or onesie sold, they will happily plant a tree through Trees For The Future.
Each t-shirt comes in a bright, happy color and features inspirational quotes such as "Laugh Often,""Chase Dreams," and "Stay Strong." Owner Andreea Ayers created the brand to promote happy, healthy minds and bodies, and to counter all negative thoughts going around in green and alternative lifestyles. Hey, a little optimism never hurt anybody.
In keeping with the eco-friendly theme, each t-shirt is either 100% organic cotton (US grown and manufactured) or a 70% bamboo/30% organic Turkish grown cotton blend. T-shirts sell for $32USD and long sleeved for $42.
Tees for Change also sells yoga mats and jewelry made from 70% recycled t-shirt scraps.
This might not change the world overnight, but every little bit helps (especially if you pair it with tree-planting organic vodka).
You know that old saying, "I've got eyes in the back of my head?" Unfortunately, that's just not possible, and we all know it. Unless you're a Micropinna microstoma, that is - a peculiar breed of fish that has a transparent top and rotating eyeballs that allows him to keep a look out for predators swimming above!
Researchers from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute used remote operated vehicles (ROVs) to study the fishie off the coast of Central California. The fish seem to enjoy hanging out at depths of 2,000-2,600 ft and remain entirely motionless - letting their see-through head and rotating eyes do all the work.
Here are the latest SocialVibe pink check photos from Stand Up To Cancer, Direct Relief International and Vitamin Angels. These donations were made possible by our brand sponsors and of course, our lovely members. If that's not enough to melt your heart, wait 'til you read about what they're planning on doing with the donations.
The economy will recover, and the nation will rebuild. That was the optimistic message President Obama shared in his first address to Congress last night. His speech focused on the economy and the promotion of his economic agenda.
"You don't need to hear another list of statistics to know that our economy is in crisis, because you live it every day," Obama said. "But while our economy may be weakened and our confidence shaken -- though we are living through difficult and uncertain times, tonight I want every American to know this: We will rebuild, we will recover and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before."

Did you watch his address? What did you think about what he had to say?
Model and reality tv star Kim Kardashian released a public apology for posting photos on her blog of Suzy, the chimpanzee her sisters and she rented as a joke.
Kim received a lot of grief for the ill-timed photos, which were posted not long after news broke of Travis the pet chimp attacking a woman in Connecticut.
She explained, "My mom has been begging Kourtney, Khloe and I to settle down and have kids, so we thought it would be funny to rent a baby chimpanzee for a week and leave her with my mom! We don't still have Suzy, she was just rented for a week!"
"What happened to the woman that was attacked by the chimpanzee was devastating! My mom and I saw it on the news and heard the 911 calls and we both cried!"
These events have added controversy to the already touchy subject of animals being used as actors, props, or even toys, and then being kept in less than ideal conditions. Many animal rights activist defend Travis the chimp's actions, blaming his living conditions and stressful schedule as his reason for snapping. Travis, who you may remember from the Old Navy ads, was shot and killed following the attack.
Regardless, Kim's face is red and she apologizes. What's your take on animals being used in commercials, movies, circuses, fairs, and for other unnatural purposes?
Four OC high schools competed in surf company Hurley's runway competition Walk The Walk at the House of Blues Anaheim last night. Sports Illustrated cover model and Hurley spokesgirl Bar Rafaeli stopped by to judge the competition, which would earn one school $5,000.
Leo's leading lady was joined by Joel & Benji Madden, as well as hunkalicious Robert Buckley from Lipstick Jungle, Taboo of the Black Eyed Peas and The Hills star Frankie Delgado.
The school's runway shows featured Hurley threads they created from scratch and were judged on best overall vibe, crowd support, style & design, and illustration of Hurley’s brand message. Winning school Fountain Valley High School received a $5,000 check from Bob Hurley himself.
SocialVibe had the pleasure of attending the event and got a couple Pink Ball photos in, including one with legendary surfer Rob Machado, which we are super stoked about!
The long awaited and much talked-about search for the Obama's future dog will finally be coming to an end. The pooch has been chosen and will arrive at the White House in April! The first family have long been pushing for a rescue dog, versus one that came from a breeder or pet store.
As a family, they considered many different breeds, but finally settled on a Portuguese Water dog.
Not the actual dog - just the breed!
Now, if only they could decide on a name. Michelle Obama recently discussed the challenging dog-naming process with People:
“Oh, the names are really bad. I don’t even want to mention it, because there are names floating around and they’re bad,” Mrs. Obama says with a laugh. “You listen and you go – like, I think, Frank was one of them. Frank! Moose was another one of them. Moose. I said, well, what if the dog isn’t a moose? Moose. I’m like, no, come on, let’s work with the names a little bit.”
Alright, Frank is pretty bad, but anything is better than "Fluffy!" What do you think the Obamas should name their new doggie?
