Five minutes and five bucks will get you a latte at your favorite coffee house, but do you really know how much work goes into making your morning brew? Take a look at this video from the World Wildlife Fund for some jaw dropping information...

50 gallons for ONE latte. Considering the lack of usable water available in the world, and the energy wasted, it might make you reconsider how you consume your coffee. One small way to help? Bring a re-usable thermos and have your barista fill 'er up.

That was an awesome video. Definitely makes sense. Crazy; I dont drink Lattes but Im sure the other stuff I drink and such uses almost as much if not more water to produce.

eliteskater08, i watched the video by the way.
i mean i believe it. i just don't fully understand. cause when you hold a latte, you're not holding 50 gallons of water. that's all i'm saying.

OMG! this is crazy unbelievable.

& to the people that don't understand, it's saying more than 50 gallons is used to MAKE and PRODUCE just one lattle. including the farming of the coffee beans and milk not the actual weight.

i hope everyone takes this seriously. it's a real eye-opener.

but that doesn't make any sense.
for one, milk can't be turned into water, therefore it doesn't count as earth's water supply.
2. they should have went byu how much it takes to make the ingredient and how much goes into.. this kinda isn't fair, not that i drink lattes or anything, but it's very misleading.

to taysa

they aren't saying that milk equates water. think about it logically, how does a cow live? it eats and drinks water. so, to keep that cow alive long enough to milk it for the milk needed for the latte, it needs water. that's where some of that 50 gallons comes from.

Sophia Gabriella

POSTED 1 YEAR AGO

I'm not sure I believe that, but I mean most everyone drinks water everyday, from a spring or a water bottle or the faucet, so why in latte's? I mean I'm not saying we could use less water, just that everyone drinks it all the time so I guess we, in America at least, have plenty of it. However when I put it that way, well haha. Ok, interesting, but don't forget it still rains the wawter we drink so don't freak out. :)

sweet deal. yeah that was kinda expected, i mean those things all have to made somehow. it's the same for anything. if you import something your essentially paying for the cost of the crate and the materials and labor it took to make that crate as well. but anyway, i'll probably bring my thermos from now on haha

Cows only give milk for something like half a year to a year after giving birth, then it has to be made pregnant again, give birth and then it can start producing milk again,

Just a random fact but yeah cows dont give milk constantly nonstop throughout the years so i can see how only so many lattes are from one cow

Leslie-I think that's the point of the video. Everything takes a lot of water to produce. Lattes are just one popular example. The message is, let's cut down on wasteful water use in everything that we do. In fact, cut down on things that we don't really need in general...

DANGG 50 gallons??

CinnamonRole

POSTED 1 YEAR AGO

to the skeptics and whiners: the video is titled, CHANGE THE WAY YOU THINK--which is really the message here. WWF is neither saying "don't drink coffee" nor "water is going to disappear." and i'm sure that they realize there are other products that take just as much, if not more, water to make. the latte was chosen (i'm assuming) b/c it is a product with which we are all familiar and consumed on a daily basis by a relatively large majority of americans.

if everyone who consumes a latte each morning uses a thermos instead of a paper cup, think of all the water and trees that would be saved. it's a SIMPLE CHANGE that would result in a HUGE DIFFERENCE. small changes to a daily routine add up when millions of people comply. increase awareness = increase the likelihood that change will happen.

change the way you think, then change the way you act. that's the point.
