Most schools have rules - no cutting class, no revealing clothing, no fighting. Rules like that are just a part of being a student; but how about "no touching?" Students at East Shore Middle School in Connecticut are protesting a recent ban put on students putting their hands on one another... in any way!

"Going down the halls it is so cramped that it is hard not to touch anyone," Amanda Bollano said. "But if it is accidental, they won’t do anything. If it is intentional, you might get detention."

Patrick Abbazia is voicing his opinion of the physical contact ban by attending class bound in blue duct tape. He and his friends give each other "knuckles" - you know, pounding it - and high-fiving. He thinks that banning those actions doesn't seem right.

"My mom says it’s not good for a person to go all day without touching,” the eighth-grader said.

EDIT: We just discovered the cause for the ban - one student kicked another in the -- "no no area." More here.

What do you think about this ban? What is the strangest rule your school has implemented?

I asked d00d the same question, and he said that school officials in his Arizona town prohibited them from wearing flip flops to school... even in 100+ degree weather!

That is just schools taking things way too far. It is like the zero tolerance policy on guns in most schools around here. The no-touch rule is pretty stupid.
Me and my friends jokingly touch. And we hug. If our school made that rule, every single one of my friends and myself would get detentions daily.

And the no flip-flop rule, my middle school had that rule. There is good reason behind it. Because flip-flops are hazardous when there is a fire and during gym and like woodshop.. But, I don't quite see the reason for not allowing kids to wear them, its their responsibility if they get hurt, not the schools.

They're doing the same rule in my school..I wonder if any of it is connected. They told us by making an announcement at Lunch saying, "There is to be no touching at all. Especially Hugging." So, my little sister and her friend went around the whole day holding up signs about hugging. Protesting, basically. When we went to the car, she decided to wave the sign out the window that said, "Hugging is healthy ! Hug someone..NOW." It was hilarious seeing kids walking by, stopping, and hugging each other in front of our car. It's ridiculous how the schools ae so paranoid about everything.

People are going too far. Yes, public affection can go too far, especially in schools. But to ban ANY touching is just unreasonable.

Did you know that an infant will die if they are not in contact with someone else? The baby could be so healthy - but it will die without affection.

Affection and contact with other people is what builds up your social skills.
