Californians may still be waiting for the Supreme Court to declare the fate of gay marriage in the Golden State, but gay and lesbian couples in Iowa are celebrating today's legalization of gay marriage. Iowa's Supreme Court announced a ruling today, declaring a ban on same-sex marriage violates the constitutional rights of gays and lesbians.

The unanimous ruling stemmed from the 2007 Polk County District Court judge's ruling that the law was unconstitutional. The original case was filed by Lambda Legal, a NY-based gay rights organization, on behalf of six gay and lesbian couples in Iowa who were denied marriage licenses.

Score one for equality. What do you think?

It's great news overall, but it's embarrassing news for California. Even the rural state of Iowa has legalized Gay Marriage, and in California it's such a difficult fight. I suppose cause there are more people in the state, therefore there are more people against equality. ='(

Ever heard of something called the Bible??? The Bible says that marriage is to be between a man and a woman. Please go to this link (http://www.contenderministries.org/articles/christianliving/homosexuality.php) and read it. It's unfortunate that the government ignores the word of our Lord in order to help sinners continue to disobey Him.

Now, I'm not gay, and i am somewhat religious but i think this is GREAT progress for our nation. Ever since i was a little boy, i was told that God loves us all, whether we're white, black, yellow, orange, brown, straight, bisexual, gay, tall, short, fat, skinny, etc. And to all those who say God doesn't want this to happen, i say to you this: if God is the creator of the heavens an the earth, and all of the Earth's inhabitants, then he must've created all the G/L/B/T people as well. to believe otherwise is pretty pigheaded. The way I see it: if you're happy with someone, and they are happy with you, who gives a flying fuck what gender they are????

If you don't know, NOW YOU KNOW.

Eaglesfan761 .. you do realize that not everybody is a Christian, right? If the government based all of their laws off of the Bible, it would be unfair towards every other religion. Love is love, and we're all people. Every state should let them get married. I know people argue what the bible says marriage to be, but why not just call gay marriage by another term? You could call it an union instead. It'll be just like a marriage but be called a different name. Doesn't that make sense? Then people wouldn't have to argue that the bible says MARRIAGE is between a man and a woman, because this will be an UNION.

i'm sick of close-minded Christians (likes the guy who posted the link). where does the Bible ACTUALLY say marriage is only between a man and a woman? and how do we not know that some of JESUS' disciples were not gay? if i'm not mistaken, a few were unmarried, right? did they ever talk about how much they loved women? nope. so how do we know they weren't gay?
also, if you believe the Bible, Jesus rolled with some of the "lowest" in his time. why put down what many of you "too good" Christians consider the lowest?
another, if you were gay, then judge all you want. but since you've probably never been gay, you don't know anything about the lifestyle. "it's their choice" bull. it's not. i never chose to be something that i knew half the world would judge and hate me for. and hide it for 19 years of my life, and fight myself and hate myself because i wasn't "normal". its all bull, and if the bible is true, then i'll see you, judgemental people, in hell.

just wanna say something to the people against gay marriage only because of the bible and god and all of that . First of all, THE BIBLE WASNT WRITTEN BY GOD! and even though i dont know god and his beliefs, i know that he would deprive PEOPLE OF THEIR RIGHTS. I'm okay with you opposing gay marriage, but don't use god and the bible to justify your opinion because not everyone believes in god. In Addition, I personally believe that people should be a little more understanding of others. There's always a group of people who are being deprived of their rights and its time to end the oppression.

Eaglesfan761,
This country does not recognize the bible. It says in our constitutional rights that we have the right to believe any religion that we want. It includes that we can have our own beliefs without being punished, persecuted, or segregated. If you think about it not letting Gay, Lesbian, and Bi-sexual people to get married is completly violating their constitutional rights. So can you please try and understand both sides of this? I do, and i am completely straight. If you can't look at this situation and see that you are the one that is judging and setting the negativity than you honestly do not deserve to share your pig headed opinion with anyone but your self centered, self concerning self.

guess what, guys? eating meat on fridays used to be a major sin. i guess ninety percent of us are going to burn in hell.

God loves everyone regardless, and didn't you hear? He creates all beings, meaning he created gays too. God is infalable, He doesn't make mistakes. maybe He was trying to establish more tolerance on earth but due to free will everyone took it the wrong way.

get over yourselves, the bible also said to love everyone for who they are, so back off and be happy for the people who are finally able to announce their love to the world and be bonded under the eyes of God.

I'm proud of Iowa's Supreme Court and deeply embarrassed for the rest of the country. How can a state that the majority of people don't care about unless it's caucus time legalize same-sex marriages but it's illegal almost everywhere else? When you get down to the root of it all, we're all marrying relatives, so why is marrying the same gender such a huge issue in America?

Amanda! (XD)

POSTED 3 YEARS AGO

And why does everyone bring religion into this issue? It's an issue of the state and it's our own religious bias that is preventing the process to equality in a world where unity is the one thing that will end the pains of this world. Almost everyone who is against same-sex marriage seems to have never heard of separation of church and state. I'm starting to think that it will take another reformation to turn world into a place of true love and unity; two things we definitely do not have now.

Marriage is a Religious ceremony.

Way to Push Your Belief on us.

This whole thing is based off the word Marriage. Which should be between a Man and a Woman.

If the gay pollution want to be together then call it something else.

you can particpate in a silence movement to help stop gay hate, this event will take place all day of april 17th.I myself have done it for the past 3 years. For some of you it may seem hard, but at least trying will help make a diffrence.Make the world face whats going on,let them know how LGBT people face their lifes in silence.

And on another note. They are people too, they deserve their rights.I do not even see why it show have to go threw court.Yeah go ahead throw around the bible comments and how you think its wrong,no matter what you say they are still a person.
