No, French Elle's April issue is not as sleazy as this blog title sounds. It's actually quite a refreshing look at cover girls. The fashion magazine is is taking a new approach to beauty with it's new issue, featuring eight models on the cover of their fashion magazine - all without the help of airbrushing or makeup.

Perhaps seeing these models without all the fuss will give us a nice dose of reality - photoshopped models are not an accurate depiction of how women look in real life. Then again, these are still genetically gifted people, in very expensive clothes, shot with very expensive cameras, and only the very best shots are chosen. So they still look great. Hm.

Do you think this will help reinforce confidence in women who suffer from body image issues, or is it only going to make it worse?

Umm. Yeah, this would make it worse. If people have confidence problems, this really isn't helping any. I mean, look at her. She's natually beautiful, not to mention skinny. At least girls could fall back on "Well that's not her, it's photoshopped." Now they're thinking, "Wow. People really do look like that?"

there are prettier (and skinnier) girls in real life too..... should we get rid of them to make insecure people feel better? the problem isn't that they're showing people can really be pretty without makeup/photoshop, but that those girls they're targeting have insecurity problems in the first place.
anyways i think this is a step in the right direction.

I don't think anything can fix how horrible the media has destroyed the average female's self esteem. Thanks to women such as Megan Fox, Jessica Alba, and others that show their bodies to all men wanting to see it, many many females feel bad that they don't have that perfect skin, tiny waist, big breasts, and everything else that is basically unnatural to the average woman.

Here's my two cents on it all: I understand that this is apparently the right step into the right direction, but direction towards what? Girls (and boys) will ALWAYS find something to compare themselves too. Everyone blames the media, but there's obviously more to it than just that. It's like blaming violence on video games. It's of human nature to like nice looking things, I understand that it's not very good, but it's what we are and that's not going to change.

I think this might make things worse. To have in one's head the idea that magazine covers ARE photoshopped and edited beyond belief, is comforting because one can have faith that perfect beauty like that of which is depicted in magazines is impossible. Now there are make-up-less and photoshop-less models on covers and they still look prettier than most, how could that boost anyone's self-confidence?

MongooseFace
