In case you missed the Miss USA beauty pageant this weekend (and we're sure many of you did), check out this year's "must see" moment. Miss California, Carrie Prejean, was asked a question regarding her stance on same sex marriage, by judge Perez Hilton, an openly gay gossip blogger. Her response was not what he wanted to hear.
We've never heard it called "opposite marriage" before! We may not all agree with her answer, but you could applaud her for sticking to her beliefs and not saying what she thought the crowd wanted to hear just to win the crown.
Keith Lewis, Executive Director of Miss California USA/Teen USA, released an exclusive statement to Perez saying:
- "As co-executive director of Miss CA USA and one of the leaders of the Miss CA family, I am personally saddened and hurt that Miss CA USA 2009 believes marriage rights belong only to a man and a woman. Although I believe all religions should be able to ordain what unions they see fit, I do not believe our government should be able to discriminate against anyone. Religious beliefs have no place in politics in the Miss CA family."
What do you think of her answer?
