This may seem like an overly-obvious statement but, it turns out "fast food" is one of the leading reasons for obesity. Duh, right? Except this isn't a hit against the McDonalds and the Taco Bells of the world, but rather, our speed of eating.
Have you ever noticed that you get full much faster when you're at dinner with a friend and spend a good deal of time talking, instead of eating? Or how quickly that full-size bag of chips disappears when you're sitting on the couch shoving them in your mouth at the speed of light?

This graph by Economix's Catherine Rampbell illustrates the correlation between different countries obesity rates and the speed at which we are shoveling chow in our faces.

The US, UK, Mexico and Canada spend the least amount of time eating per day, yet we are by far the fattest. Interestingly, if you remove them from the graph, there doesn't seem to be much of a difference between the rest of the countries studied.
So what's the answer? Eat slower, it seems. But then again... who has time to eat anyway? We're a country of workaholics, and most of us struggle to find even 20 minutes to stuff a sandwich in our faces or a poptart in our bookbag.
How much time to you spend eating each day?
