POSTED 2 YEARS AGO

There's a photo that was recently published in a Tennessee newspaper that has been brought to our attention by a reader. With Memorial Day behind us, but many hardships still ahead as we press on with the war overseas, it's important that we recognize individuals such as 8 year-old Christian Golcznski.

This tremendously brave young man had to do something no child should ever have to experience - attend the funeral of his father, Staff Sgt. Marcus "Marc" Golczynski, a fallen Marine. Shown below is a photo of a teary-eyed Christian accepting the flag from his father's casket.

After surviving a year's tour last year, Christian's father volunteered to return to the war zone in hopes of "finishing what we started." Sadly, like far too many courageous soldiers, Sgt. Goczynski never returned home.

We wish there were more opportunities for us to see things of this nature in the news, which is why we are happy to share this with you.

You can help support families of fallen soldiers like Christian's by choosing IAVA as your cause on SocialVibe. All funds raised will go towards improving the lives if Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their families.0

That picture is so touching. :( That little boy handled it a lot better than most people older than him would have.

This is so sad. It actually made me cry. Kids shouldn't have to go through that.

Aww. That's so sad. I can only imagine what that poor little boy is going through. I'm so glad we have people like his father in our country though that are willing to risk their lives to protect us. As much as I dislike the war and feel that it isn't completely necessary, it does provide me with a comfort knowing that we have those brave men and women protecting us.

I'm supporting IAVA because I think it's a wonderful cause...especially after reading stories like this. I'm going to be leaving for the army in a few months, too, so it's really close to my heart for many reasons. He is a very brave young man, and my thoughts go out to him.

That brought tears to my eyes. My dad had to go over to Iraq a couple years ago, and it was just torture for me. But the pain I went through, is nothing compared to what this little man has to face. What a strong little guy. I bet he is proud of his dad for the service that he has provided for our country just so we can be safe here in America. His dad is a real hero. God bless his family.
