After we caught the opening night of Food Inc., it changed the way many of us are thinking about what we're eating and where it comes from. There is a very well disguised side of the food production industry, especially when it comes to fast food and processed, boxed food. Chipotle is helping get the message out about the documentary by sponsoring free screenings of the documentary across the nation.

But wait, isn't Chipotle exactly the type of thing we SHOULDN'T be eating? Aren't they... *shock* - owned by McDonalds?! Actually, no! Although they do have some investment from McD's (more detail about that here), Chipotle has its own business/sales model and code of ethics, which includes using free-range pork and chicken (50% free-range beef), and locally-grown produce when available. The chain's motto is "Food With Integrity."
From their site:
- "The issues raised by the film Food, Inc. are important and complex, and everything we do at Chipotle strives to address them. Our philosophy of Food With Integrity is an active process of working back along the food chain. It is a deeper level of thinking, consideration, and comprehension that goes beyond our distributors to understand how our vegetables are grown and our animals are raised. Food With Integrity is a philosophy solidly based on a foundation of not exploiting animals, the environment, or people."
The SocialVibe team (veggies and non-veggies alike) are all big fans of Chipotle, so we are feeling awesome upon learning this. We urge you to get out there and take advantage of one of these 32 free screenings... click here to see the list of all shows. They all start at 7:30pm and are first come, first serve!
We hope to see more restaurants implementing similar practices when it comes to food production. Go Chipotle!
Have you seen Food, Inc? What was your opinion? How has it changed the way you eat?
