If you haven't made it to the theatres to see Away We Go, we highly recommend it. Even more so now that we know that production of the indie film featuring John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph was mega eco-friendly!
So eco-friendly in fact, they're even releasing a documentary about the innovative ways they cut their enviro-impact and reduced carbon emissions during filming. The piece will be called "Away We Go: A Pilot Study Of Sustainable Film Production Practices." Ooh la la!

If you think about the cost of production for your average Hollywood film, and the amount of resources that go into each of them (even the ones that bomb), it makes total sense to release a film showing filmmakers how to "do it right, and do it green."
The crew of Away We Go worked with Green Media Solutions along with TerraChoice to come up with solutions such as using biofuels, hiring carbon accountants, distributing reusable water bottles, and sourcing local produce. You can see the full report of how they cut in areas of energy, transportation, catering/craft/water and waste at Green Media Solutions.
Executive producer Mary-Jo Winkler calls it “the most detailed carbon footprint measurement anyone has ever done on a film.”
We hope this will become the new standard for film making, or at the very least, inspire many a producer to take it easy on Mother Nature while filming!
Anyone else seen this movie? What did you think? I've actually seen it TWICE already and loved it both times!
