For many of Stephen Colbert's avid followers (ourselves included), it was truly a let-down in the election of 2008 when the list of nominees failed to include his name in the presidential race.

colbert

Never fear, comedic politico aficionados, for Colbert has a new goal for making his American footprint in history! "Operation Iraqi Stephen: Going Commando" can be made possible if 25,000 signatures on the IAVA petition website are collected. At the moment, there are already over 10,000 signatures towards the cause of honoring the bear-fearing host. There is a catch, though... not every random and hilarious fake-news anchor can strike up a real petition and get off scot-free.

President Barack Obama makes a cameo on the special U.S. military edition of the Colbert Report, giving direct orders to General Raymond Odierno to shave his luscious locks of hair right off his patriotic head. With that, Colbert retorts, "...But without my hair, what would I blow dry?" You'll notice in new episodes his fashionable buzz cut (as well as a chic camouflage cap attempting to cover up his loss.) We think he looks pretty good! Still, we do miss his trademark hairdo.

Hm. On the one hand, I love Colbert, and I think it would great if he were made an honorary vet... BUT. That kind of makes a mockery of the real veterans out there. Not cool.... Dilemma dilemma...

OC Josie

although I love Mr Colbert, I do not think he should be made an honorary veteran. He has not fought in the war, laid in the mud and dirt next to the men and women in the battlefield to defend our country. If he wants some sort of patriotic title, give him something like "embassador to political-comedic freedom".

This guys is hilarious but if he gets it, its a kick in the face to all the men and woman who did fight. So no he should not get it

i love colbert but that i dont think he deserves that. ill be frank i think that is making fun of the real soldiers out there who are risking their lives. most of my friends are in the sevice & so is my boyfriend. several are getting sent out there and i think its disgracing them to make a comedian a honorary war veteran. no way

i'm gonna have to agree with most of the comments.. I think it's lowering the status of these amazing men and women that have fought in the dirt and mud through sleep deprivation and lonliness... as much as I love Colbert it's not deserved.. bad form sir.. bad form

I have to agree with the afore typed responses. I know he's hilarious, but I don't think he deserves an honorary title of this status. Maybe like OC Josie said embassador of something. Not an Iraq veteran. I haven't fought over there and I don't plan on joining the military, so I won't ever fight over there, but I know people that have gone or are there and I know there are thousands and thousands more that I don't know; that have already died. If he went over there and did something aside from like a USO stint, then maybe, but as of right now, I don't think he rises to the name. Entertaining does not equal enlisted.

Hell, no. As a Veteran of OIF, no one except American Servicemen deserve to be called Veterans of OEF and OIF. This would be a travesty to the real Servicemen.

Ah. That would be my picture. :)

And if anything this whole Honorary thing is to get PUBLICITY for their cause. With Stephen Colbert's face on their website and the millions of people going to the website to vote for him they're getting their information out there. Out to people who WOULDN'T know anything about it if it weren't for the Colbert Report. I don't think it's a mockery of Veterans. It's a way to get people involved. He's not making fun of real soliders if anything he's trying to help the Veterans of America.

But other than that, I was just pretty jazzed that my picture was used again. :)

I love Colbert but I hate the idea of "honorary war veterans", if I were one of the people serving our country and they started handing out veteran status to anybody, I'd feel like it was a slap in the face.

Stashdragon

POSTED 1 YEAR AGO

There are many man and women serving abroad in forward areas that will never actually fire thier weapon, they will still be counted as war veterans. I think as long as we keep the honorary in front of it, it keeps its meaning, he has done alot for the morale and support of our guys and gals abroad. I dont think anyone will compare Colberts contributions to a delta operator, but they were contributions none the less.

even though I love stephen colbert, I don't think he should be considered a veteran. he didn't really serve as anything but a host. he was just there as an entertainer.
so unless they have actual footage of him doing the training properly, and not as a joke, and does more than just make the soldiers laugh then he should be recognized as a veteran.

Wtf?
Hell no he doesn't deserve that shit.
Wtf has he done out there besides make jokes?
Don't get me wrong, I think he's funny and entertaining.
But if he wins this than that is an insult to all TRUE war vets who have won the award.
It just makes the award a huge joke.
Hell fuckin' no.
He DOES NOT deserve this award unless he gets his ass out there and actually WORKS for it.
This just pisses me off.

mmm... no. Just no. He's funny and all, but really... let's be serious here. I don't think he knows what's it's like to be a real veteran of the United States and if he did, then he probably wouldn't be doing this. My dad is a veteran and we both think this is ridiculous. It totally set me dad off too.

No! Like O.C said, he has not fought in the war. I really don’t get this, what makes him think he can be called a war veteran of Iraq or Afghanistan if he’s never even been there?
This is really dumb. He hasn’t gone through what all the other soldiers have gone through. AT ALL. I've never been to Iraq or Afghanistan but my oldest brother is in Iraq right now and my other brother got back from Iraq almost a year ago.. && they both have to go to Afghanistan about a week or two after one of them gets married. But yeah, its not just bad for my brothers its bad for all the American soldiers..

Is this another one of his 'jokes'?
