Samsung is taking steps towards a greener future that will be pleasing to many environmental activists. The technology company has just put $4.3 billion towards creating more eco-friendly gadgets. Not only that, but they're also investing $1.8 billion in cutting greenhouse gas emissions from their manufacturing plants, hoping to cut their current carbon footprint in half.

The company plans to reduce power consumption of its electronics by 50%, and are making drastic changes in the actual gadgets, including more recyclable and organic materials used in laptops and cell phones.
- "This eco-management initiative will encompass all of our global operations, supply chain, and the complete lifecycle of Samsung products, and by achieving these goals we aim to lead the way in tackling the environmental problems that are facing our planet," Samsung Electronics' vice chairman and CEO Yoon-woo Lee said.
They estimate that these changes will result in 84 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions saved through 2013.
Wonderful news, we hope this will be the new standard for all electronics and technology companies. Greener = better!
