Due to the nearly 40% increase in cycling over the past six years, Colorado lawmakers have passed a bunch of laws that will give people on tha' bikes more room to pedal. Motorists in the Rocky Mountain State, one of the most bicycle-friendly I might add, will now be required to give cyclists at least 3 feet to ride. They'll also now be forbidden from throwing things at cyclists, but that's another post altogether.

Other regions are beginning to come around as well, USAToday reports that Louisiana and New Jersey now require the same from drivers to accommodate more cyclists, and 13 other states have proposed similar laws.
- "Cyclists need to be treated with respect and not surprise," said Dan Grunig, executive director of Bicycle Colorado. ""It can't always be that the fastest, heaviest vehicle wins."
It's great to know that lawmakers are willing to make the necessary changes to provide for safe cycling, hopefully this will encourage even more people to choose pedaling over gas-guzzling. Preserve our planet and burn those calories! Two birds, one stone.
