NOTE: An update has been posted in regards to this commercial. WWF does not endorse this commercial in anyway. Read more here.

The World Wildlife Fund has released a somewhat controversial commercial encouraging people to turn their sights to saving the Earth rather than trying to remedy a decades-long war against terror. In the PSA, WWF compares the tragic 2005 tsunami to 9/11, stating it killed "100 times more people" than the attack on the World Trade Center.

We generally don't like to compare one disaster against another, gauging which is worse, just like we have no preference on which of our causes is more important than the other (we leave that choice up to you, the member!).

What do you think about this commercial from the WWF? Do you think this cause is more important than the current war against terror in the Middle East?

I don't like it, but just me I find tryin to make a point using things like 9/11 is very disrespectful.

Not a good move in any context.

I don't think they should try to downplay what happened on 9/11, unless they want to make a lot of potential supporters angry.

I wouldn't really recommend that for a WWF commercial..
But that was intense. It would be alright for more of a like, warning type commercial. Kinda like the wild fire commercials. ;)

I can't think of what I'm trying to say. :|

You cannot compare the two. Both are terrible tragedies. The tsunami was a force of nature that killed many, many people, but 9/11 was a brutal attack by man. Both are too terrible to put into words. Families and victims are still grieving over them. They shouldn't downplay that.

The truth is hard for people to swallow and whether they like it or not that is exactly what happened.
I think the"Respect it." part is a little over-board but overall the ad is very effective in getting it's point across.
To get your point across you don't compare disasters to daises. To get your point across you compare disasters to scars.
If they were posting this video in Europe, they might use something like the Pam Am bombing.
People won't respond to soft ads.
You want responses, you go hardcore.

But if you also want to lose supporters, you piss them off.

Actually, it`s a really terrible commercial beyond the weak platform for comparison.
(Note: Just pointing out certain points, so don`t take offense)
(1)What qualifies 9/11 as one of the "worst tragedies of humanity?"
(2) While the usage of several planes attacking NY is an interesting way of illustrating the statistics, how does it underline the message of save the planet through environmental reform rather than fight the war on terror?
(3) This commercial does not give an understanding of what the effects of action or inaction may or may not be.
(4) Minimizing conflict and poverty is an essential step to environmental reform; there`s a reason that rapidly industrializing countries go through huge environmental problems. There`s a reason nations fight over water rights.
Weak advert, poorly conceived, and does not deliver any information beyond a direct comparison of the numbers.
It`s sensationalist and to some degree fear-mongering. I don`t think it`s effective, no matter how true the stats are.

althought i probably wouldnt agree with it if i was family with a victim of 911, the commerial does make sense, and i like it in a strange way.

I agree with dale102, but I'm glad that WWF didn't endorse it.

I dont think theyre trying to disrespect the events of 9/11.
I think its just trying to say how powerful natural forces really are ? idk.
Either way we should be respecting our planet :P

Is there any animals die in there? Now that's way more off-course than what they're should fight for. The Environment and species or mankind? Before mankind, there's already many kinds of animals had exist.
