One billion is a big number. As we reported recently, world hunger is officially affecting 1 billion people for the first time in human history. There are also 1 billion people online today, which means 1 billion opportunities to make a difference.

The UN World Food Programme has put together a very cool website for their new campaign, A Billion for a Billion, that allows you to take action in many ways, among them tweeting, sending an e-mail to editors, blogging, adding a banner or widget to your site, hungrifying your avatar or status, making a video, holding an event and many more.
Each of these tools, both big and small, will take the World Food Programme one step closer to reaching their end goal of reversing the progression of world hunger.
In addition to this, aspiring filmmakers can participate in WFP's international video competition, hungerbytes. They are asking people to create and submit short videos about hunger beginning October 16, which is World Food Day. They're seeking edgy, provocative videos, "whatever it takes to make people think and to change attitudes." There are very few guidelines, and we know with the creative bunch we have here at SocialVibe, one of you could easily be the winner, the one person who gets to travel with WFP on one of their projects. Find out more and enter at www.wfp.org/hungerbytes.

Beauty queens and political leaders have been pledging to fight hunger for years, but if we really want to see a change, it's going to take the help of each and every one of us. Make a difference by visiting http://www.wfp.org/1billion and completing the activities listed to do your part and stop world hunger!
P.S. If you're reading this, chances are you've already completed one of the many ways you can contribute, which is Joining SocialVibe!
