January Jones, better known as Betty Draper to all you Mad Men fans, is trading in her prim and proper, unpolitical attitude for one that is more strong-willed. The actress recently paid a visit to Capitol Hill to lobby for stronger laws prohibiting shark finning.

If you aren't familiar with this brutal practice, shark finning is essentially when fishermen catch sharks, cut off their fins, and often toss the animal right back into the water. Shark fins are considered a delicacy in foreign countries and are often used in soups.

January sits with New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg.
Jones met with Senators like John McCain (AZ) and Frank Lautenberg (NJ) to educate them about why strict action needs to be taken immediately.
- “‘I thought it would be all security and stress,’ Jones tells Whispers. ‘But they’ve been very receptive so far; maybe I’ve just had good luck today.’ Jones was meeting with several senators, including Democrats Frank Lautenberg of New Jersey and Tim Johnson of her home state of South Dakota. ‘I thought that all the senators wouldn’t have a lot of time, but he loved to talk about the subject,’ Jones says after her meeting with Lautenberg, who spent a full half-hour chatting with the starlet. ‘It made me feel very positive about what I’m doing here today,’ she says.”
Shark finning is brutal, unnecessary, and quite frankly - disgusting. We hope her visit to Washington left an impression on the politicians and that steps are taken soon to ban this cruel activity.
