While cheating on your husband or wife could cost you dearly in many areas, residents of New Hampshire could be paying even more moolah for their infidelity. It was recently discovered that a 200 year old law calling for the hanging of men and women who cheat on their spouses is still valid. The fine has been reduced to $1,200 rather than standing on the gallows with a noose around your neck, but the law still stands.

The state was one of the first to approve the marriages of same-sex couples, but many residents and lawmakers think this statute goes a bit too far. Durham Democrat Timothy Horrigan is co-sponsoring a bill that would repeal the law, and he believes the state has no right to regulate the people's sex lives.
On the other side we have supporters like Kevin Smith, executive director of Cornerstone Police Research, who feels repealing the law would weaken families by diminishing the harmful effects of adultery.
What do you think - should adultery be punishable by fine?
