Talk about an early Christmas present! Actor Alec Baldwin surprised his alma mater New York University's Tisch School of the Arts with a hefty $1 million donation this week. The funds will be used to start the Alec Baldwin Drama Scholarship Fund beginning in 2010.

Alec, a graduate of Tisch's class of '94, is offering the scholarship to provide financial assistance for students who show "work ethic, development of leadership skills, willingness to collaborate, the ability to tolerate risk, and the capacity to work with constructive criticism."
We're sure that last one will be important if these future students plan on following Alec's Hollywood path. Special consideration will be given to students who come from economically challenged or underprivileged families - awesome.
- "The support I got from Tisch made it possible for me to become an actor and to have a career in this business," said Baldwin. "It's important to give back to those institutions that give us such opportunities, and I encourage anyone to look into supporting their alma mater."
Baldwin must be feeling the holiday spirit! You can see the actor in the upcoming film It's Complicated alongside Meryl Streep and Steve Martin, opening Christmas Day. Baldwin is also slated to co-host the Oscars next year with Martin.
