Fresh off her win of the Best Actress Golden Globe for her role in Julie & Julia, Meryl Streep revealed that she will be donating her dress to an auction

Always the lady, Streep explained how humbled she was by her fortune and the importance of keeping it in perspective.
- “I come to Golden Globes weekend and I am really, honestly conflicted — how to have my happy movie self in the face of everything I’m aware of in the real world,” said Streep. "And I want to say that’s when I have my mother’s voice coming to me, saying, ‘Shoot some money to Partners in Health, put the dress on, put on a smile and be damn grateful you have the dollars to help.’ "
Other awards show attendees and presenters are also donating their Golden Globes attire for the cause, among them Josh Brolin, Olivia Wilde, SNL's Amy Poehler and Gerard Butler. The auction will begin on eBay on January 25.
In addition to donating their fancy threads, many other stars at the 67th award ceremony encouraged viewers to dig deep and donate. Host Neil Patrick Harris told MTV on the red carpet:
- “I’m just waiting for silver linings. There are a lot of wonderful people who have banded together and sent money to the Red Cross. It’s a very worldly problem and it’s impressive to see so many factions of the world uniting financially. It’s really bad over there right now."
It was great to see the importance of helping this extremely impoverished country in a time of disaster not be overshadowed by something like Hollywood movies and television.
Hollywood will continue to show their support in the upcoming Hope for Haiti telethon on January 22 at 8pm. The star-studded event, hosted by George Clooney in LA, native Haitian Wyclef Jean in New York and CNN's Anderson Cooper in Haiti, will air on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, BET, the CW, HBO, MTV, VH1 and CMT, will be available internationally, and run commercial-free. The funds raised will be donated to Wyclef Jean's charity Yele Haiti, as well as UNICEF, Oxfam America, Partners in Health, and the Red Cross. The growing list of performers includes U2's Bono, Alicia Keys, Sting, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and more.
