Shakira is digging deep into her pockets and giving the children of Haiti a gift that will give for many years to come - a new school. With the help of her Barefoot Foundation and partner Architecture for Humanity, the school will work provide education, school feeding, clean water and sanitation services.

The singer, who recently penned an article in Newsweek urging world leaders to start a Global Education fund, says of the project:
- “There is a great need for immediate aid in Haiti, but also for longer-term reconstruction. For that reason, we are doing our small part to help Haiti rebuild and give the children affected by this disaster the chance to learn and thrive. I hope we can use some of what we’ve learned working in Colombia to help Haiti’s children recover. When we educate children we empower societies, and right now Haiti needs all of our help.”
Well done, Shakira! It's wonderful to see the love and generosity pouring out of the rich and famous in such a time of tragedy.
