Ever have buyer’s remorse? A Tennessee woman who adopted a 7-yr-old Russian boy last September decided last week to return her “purchase.”

russian_adoption_return

How, you ask? She bought him a one-way ticket back to Russia, packed him some cookies and a coloring book, and sent him on his way.

She claimed that he displayed “violent and psychotic behavior” and that, after admitting to burning down a building near his orphanage in Russia, she found him starting a fire in his bedroom.

On Thursday, she received a call from the U.S. Embassy in Russia letting her know that she had set off an "international incident." Oops.

Russia has now banned future adoptions by Americans until the United States signs a new agreement to regulate them. In the words of Russian Foreign Minister, Lavrov: “This latest incident has exhausted our patience.”

No one wants to deal with serious behavioral issues like that but the kid is only 7 years old.

I feel bad returning shoes…

A child is not a puppy or a toy, children like people have issues if you'r enot "MOTHER" enough to help your child be he is not PERFECT enough for you, you shouldn't be allowed to be a mother shame on you, you need psychological help as well.

that is completely terrible. that poor kid is going to live the rest of his life feeling even more unwanted than he probably already did. that women should go to prison):

ok that's ridiculous. if she wanted to "send him back" she should have at least went with him instead of sending him off on his own. A former teacher of my is right in the middle of adopting from Russia, and now he might not get to, all because of one persons idiotic actions? personally, I think she should not have even been allowed to adopt in the first place if this is how she acted.

When you adopt a child, you become their parent. And as a parent, you do what is best for your child. "Returning" a child could only be acceptable if it was in the child's best interest, i.e. if you find you can't take care of your child. IF the child had any issues, the woman just made them worse by her actions.

There was actually an entire report on CNN not too long ago that related to this very topic, so I do not find this as too much of a shock. I'm sorry, but I feel I must go against all of you in my opinion. If the child is exhibiting psychotic behaviors, pulling out knives, and trying to kill you, or other members of your family than I say the adopter has every write in the world to send the kid back. Remember, there are always two sides to every story.

Didn't she know if he had any psychological disorders or anything before she brought him home? I know I'd wanna know a medical history and all that. Either way though, she still could've at least tried to him out since she was a "mother." Isn't that what parents are suppossed to do?

Wow what a mess! She shouldn't of adopted him if she wasn't able to put up with the worst of him. Would she of done the same if her own blood child had done the same thing? I bet not. If she really thought she couldn't of coped with the child she should of gone with him. Or told the social services or something!

I must say that it is a great shame and very sad. Something you might not know about Artem Saveliev is that he is probably getting placed with a diplomatic family in Moscow. I hope this one will work out better.

As for the principle of the thing: returning children is definitely a last resort! And shouldn't be a first response.

This story makes me really mad. I can't believe someone would do something like this. My History teacher is in the process of adopting from Russia, and now that Russian/US adoptions are frozen, they have to wait even longer to get their son. I hate that someone would send their child back like they are returning it. And the lady that sent him back was in the process of adopting another child! She said the child had psychological problems, well if he didn't before he does now. He's going to go through life thinking that he's not good enough, that his adoptive mother sent him back. I think the lady should be charged with something, it isn't fair that she should just walk away with a slap in the wrist.
