Our product and technology team has been hard at work packing... er... coding because, on March 25, socialvibe.com will be moving to give.socialvibe.com.
No need to be alarmed - all of your favorite features will remain and you'll still be able to earn donations for all of your favorite causes. Same site, new URL.
Thanks to you, we've been able to donate nearly $1 million to incredible causes around the world.
You've helped build schools for rescued child soldiers, fund cancer research, provide safe, clean water for those without it, and make suicide prevention resources available to people in crisis.
So update your bookmarks, spread the word, and keep up your amazing dedication to all of our wonderful charity partners!
Ever been to the circus? Did you delight as the magnificent, glitter-covered animals balanced on their back feet and “danced” under the big top?
Going to the circus was a part of childhood for many, but there is nothing joyful about what goes on behind the scenes of shows like Ringling Brothers and other circuses.
Elephants and other animals do not voluntarily ride bicycles or jump through fire – even for treats. They are severely abused day after day and do these things because they are afraid not to.
According to former Ringling employee Glen Ewell, beating elephants with bullhooks - large sharp hooks used to puncture their skin and inflict pain - is routine. The bloody and painful wounds are concealed from circus-goers with a special powder.
"Ringling even employs a guy to use some special powder to stop up the bleeding when an elephant is hooked too hard. They call it ‘spot work.’"
The images below were provided to PETA by a former Ringling Brothers elephant trainer.
Despite the very minimal, and often vague standards of the Animal Welfare Act, circuses like Ringling are consistently cited for noncompliance.
People who take their children to circuses aren’t necessarily bad people; most of the time, they just don’t know the truth about them. You can help change that! Take action now at www.peta2.com/neverforget.
Know someone that’s set on going to a circus? Let them know that there are plenty of shows that dazzle without the use of electric prods, whips, and bullhooks - Cirque du Soleil, for one, is a kinder, safer and wonderfully entertaining option.
Here’s something you can do right this second: take the pledge to never support a circus that uses animals and share it with a friend or two... or ten!
Tomorrow, we're going to be launching something very new and very cool at SocialVibe.com - something that will make earning points and helping your friends that much more exciting. Once it's up, we'll give you a lengthy blog post full of details about what it is and how you can use it to your benefit (hint: free swag), but for now, we'll just tease you a little with this screenshot.
What do you think it is? The possibilities are endless!
Surprise! We've got a whole new look! From the outside, that is. SocialVibe.com is the proud owner of a brand new homepage! We hope this visually-pleasing landing page will welcome visitors and new members with a wonderful representation of what they can expect - a cool way to help charities online.
New features on the homepage include a feed of your recent activity, a rotating banner that features many of our wonderful causes, featured news and campaigns, and a preview of our most recent blog entry.
Remember - this is our homepage, not your Dashboard, where you complete all your activities and control your account settings.
So - do you like it? We sure hope so! Give us your feedback in the comments.
If you've tried to visit SocialVibe in the last half hour, you've probably noticed the site is down. That's because we're in the process of launching all those fabulous product changes that we've been telling you about the past few days.
To read about them, click here and here. To HEAR about them, check out this quick behind the scenes video we shot of the Product & Technology team (some of whom were "too busy" to talk) powering through the launch and explaining how the changes will help you help your cause!
P.S. Please excuse my uber-annoying voice.
As with any launch, there are bound to be bugs. If you find any, please report them to us at feedback@socialvibe.com. We can't wait to hear what you think of the new profiles!
So you remember yesterday when we gave you a little preview of the newly renovated SocialVibe.com user profiles? Pretty snazzy right? Well today, we're going to unveil a few more exciting elements coming to SocialVibe very soon that will help you connect with others and earn more for your Cause!
And the amazing new features are:
1. New Cause profiles! We've given our charity profiles a fresh new look that will allow you to not only check goal progress, connect with other supporters and find out what's happening with the charity, but actually complete activities to HELP that cause at the same time!
2. New Celebrity profiles! It's no secret we've had a few familiar faces helping us raise money for charity here on SocialVibe. Celebrites like Hayden Panettiere, Linkin Park, Katie Price and even online celebrities like Sunshinee and YouTuber SwiftKarateChop are some of the big names who have been using their powerful influence to help those in need. Our new Celebrity profiles will allow you to identify, friend and connect with these celebrities!
3. New Sponsor profiles! In addition to completing fun activities for points on your Dashboard and on your friend's profiles, you'll also be able to engage with our brand sponsors right on their profile. This is also the place where you can leave some love (and perhaps a thank you!) for that generous brand in the comments!
That's all for now... keep an eye out for the changes that should be live in the next 24 hours. Much, much more to come, just for you!
As we briefly teased on Friday, this week we're unrolling some more new changes to SocialVibe.com. Among the fun new features are revamped profile pages that are full of awesome changes that will help you benefit your Cause and share your impact in a big way.
The first and perhaps the most noticeable change is the ability for your friends to complete sponsor activities upon visiting your profile. Anyone who visits your page can now help you increase your Cause impact and earn more points by completing activities. They can also quickly sign up for SocialVibe right there on your profile, earning you an automatic 100 points. Sweet.
You'll still have the standard profile features, like photos, videos, links to friends profiles and commenting, but you'll also have new ways to share your individual impact, like your total cause impact under your profile photo (i.e., 50 gallons of water). Here's a quick peek at what the new profiles will look like:
See why we encouraged you to get your Personal URL like, now? You're going to be sharing your page like ca-razy!
Another thing you'll be sharing much more of is your answers to the Daily Questions. Now, each time you answer the Daily Question, you'll be able to share your answer on Facebook/Twitter/MySpace, so your friends can come see your answer and answer the DQ themselves, earning you additional points. From there, your friends can complete the other fun activities, all of which result in more points for you and your Cause!
Stay tuned tomorrow to find out how the Cause and Sponsor profiles will be changing... along with some exciting special profiles for our celebrity friends!
Do you have your personal URL yet? If not, now might be a great time to get yours, because very soon, you're going to be wanting to share your SocialVibe profile with everyone who is willing to look.
This coming Wednesday we're going to be making a few improvements to SocialVibe.com, namely where user, sponsor and cause profiles are concerned. Here are a few things you can look forward to seeing:
- Re-designed profiles that make it easier for your friends to sign up, earning more points for you and your cause (100 points for each signup on your page).
- Easier ways to raise money for charity. Brand activities will be more prominently featured on profiles, encouraging visitors to engage and helping your cause even more.
- More celebrity profiles on SocialVibe, celebrities that will be using their influence to help the causes.
Photos, videos, comments, links to other profiles and friends will STILL appear on your profiles.
This is just the tip of the iceberg and of course, we'll go into detail about the changes prior to the launch late next week. Let the countdown begin!
