Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) is a ground-breaking movement aimed at raising funds to accelerate cancer research to end cancer’s reign as a leading cause of death. SocialVibe has pledged its full support for SU2C’s nationally televised event, which will be simultaneously broadcast live and commercial-free on ABC, CBS and NBC on September 5, 2008. SocialVibe’s goal is to raise more than $50,000 through a first-of-its-kind “Blog Challenge” that harnesses the power of social media to raise funds for this supremely worthy cause.

If you have a blog and want an easy way to support SU2C, here are three ways to get involved (choose any or all):
Option 1: Write a blog post and link readers to SocialVibe.com/SU2C. You’ll generate $1 for SU2C for each sign-up. We’ve included HTML for a blog post template below that includes the SU2C logo and YouTube PSA, as well as a sample SocialVibe badge. Feel free to customize however you wish or to write an original post. We’ll do our best to track where all of the referrals come from in order to post the results after the event.
Option 2: Sign up to become a member of SocialVibe by clicking the SocialVibe.com/SU2C link. In additional to generating $1 for SU2C, you’ll build your own SocialVibe ad with your sponsor of choice and SU2C as your cause. This will generate the embed code so you can post is anywhere on your blog (the greater the visibility the better). You’ll automatically start generating donations to SU2C through this badge. If you contact us (su2c@socialvibe.com) and let us know your username, we can track all of the click-thrus that come from your blog and badge.
Option 3: Contact SocialVibe (su2c@socialvibe.com) to have a custom, co-branded SU2C badge designed for your blog. We’ll need your logo and your PMS color tone. This badge will specifically track all of the users you send our way. Please keep in mind that we can only handle a limited number of these, so we’ll do our best to accommodate everyone. Leading up to, during, and following the event, SocialVibe will do its best to promote all bloggers who are participating through our blog and other types of promotions we’ll be doing.

BLOG POST TEMPLATE
"SocialVibe Supports Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) with Blog Challenge"
SocialVibe raises awareness and donations for Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C).
We've all heard the saying, "It's serious as cancer." The expression is used in many ways. It's become cliché. But there's a reason why clichés are formed. Like the universal feeling of being stuck between a rock and a hard place, there's a deeper truth. In this case, it achieves cliché status because cancer presides over all things serious. It is the king and queen of seriousness. Cancer is deserving of this respect, and yet this tyranny calls for any and all action to overthrow it. To render cancer less serious and eventually not serious at all. That's essentially what Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) is all about.
Stand Up To Cancer is an initiative aimed at rallying the public around the goal of ending cancer's reign as a leading cause of death. The initiative brings together an unprecedented collaboration that unites the major television networks, entertainment industry executives, celebrities and prominent leaders in cancer research and patient advocacy. ABC, CBS and NBC will donate one hour of simultaneous commercial-free primetime for a nationally televised fundraising event to air on September 5, 2008 (8 pm EDT and PDT). If you've not seen the PSA, it's nothing short of inspiring:
SocialVibe is supporting SU2C in a number of ways. It's one of the featured causes that users can choose to support by adding the brand-cause widget on their profile pages like MySpace and Facebook. These earn points for impressions which translate into cash donations. Anyone who has a profile page or blog can post the embed code, complete with a third-party sponsor like so:

We're also participating in the SocialVibe Blog Challenge, where $1 will be donated to SU2C for every person who signs up for SocialVibe through this link: SocialVibe.com/SU2C. When all is said and done, SocialVibe will list the blogs and their donation tally on its blog, The Vibe, together with a press release that will feature the top bloggers. So what are you waiting for? Click it and sign up!
This isn't first call to action for SU2C we've seen. As Howard Greenstein writes in his related post on Social Media Club, "I’m making a call to action for all my social media connected friends: please be a part of this effort, raise visibility and help find the cure. I ask that you suggest other things we can do as a community to increase awareness." Our answer: the SocialVibe Blog Challenge.
It's no coincidence that social media and social good share the same first name. Blogs serve a social good in and of themselves. Jeremiah Owyang dipped his toe into these waters when he rallied bloggers and social media devotees around earthquake relief in China, despite being well outside the scope of his web strategy blog. Even Perez Hilton writes frequent posts in support of worthwhile causes. It's just part of the blogger DNA, and we're psyched to be a part of it.
Lest we forget, you can also make a straight cash donation. That is still allowed. So don't forget to mark your calendars: September 5th at 8:00pm ET & PT on ABC, CBS, and NBC. Wow!
